Message from Sam Hammond, Provincial President, Regarding New Report Cards

Presidents:

I want to thank you and your members for keeping me and ETFO staff informed about the numerous implementation issues related to the Fall Progress Report.

Yet again there is a huge difference between what the Ministry of Education said would happen during the implementation of the new Fall Progress Report and the realities our members are facing as they begin the process of completing these reports. The Growing Success document is very clear "The document is intended to ensure that policy is clear, consistent, and well aligned across panels and across school boards and schools...". At this point nothing could be further from the truth. I want to assure you, and our members, that we will continue to insist that these issues be dealt with in a timely manner by the Minister and Deputy Minister. In fact, I will have an opportunity to put these concerns to the Minister later this afternoon at the Liberal Convention.

I have attached a memo highlighting many of the concerns that have been raised and our position on issues. I have also attached a copy of our PRS Matters and a very useful memo dated September 7, 2010 prepared by Joanne Myers and Ruth Dawson, Professional Services.
