Every member should have received a copy from the Board of the document “Benefits Update –
Coverage for Vaccines” dated May 2, 2005. Members should have received it either
electronically at school or members on leave should have had a copy mailed to their home.
 
As many of you know Manulife has been rejecting claims for vaccines which used to be covered.
The Boards document outlines how they intend to implement changes for reimbursement as a
result of changes to the benefits plan negotiated in 2003.   
 
For vaccinations already administered ETT advises that:
- If you have had a claim rejected and you have not received a reassessment by the last
week in June then call 1-800-268-6195 to inquire as to the status of your claim; you can
follow up in July and August.  If you have not received a reimbursement by September of
2005, please contact the ETT Benefits Coordinator;
- If you have receipts for vaccinations that were never submitted then file a claim with
Manulife now, using the usual procedure.
- If your claim either new or old is rejected, part of it is rejected and especially if vaccines
that you have been reimbursed for in the past are not covered, contact the ETT Benefits
Coordinator.
- you contact any friend who is currently on leave (especially maternity leave) and make
sure that they have received a copy of the Board’s update; if they have not suggest that
they contact the TDSB Benefits Department through the TDSB switchboard (416-397-
3000).
 
For future vaccinations, if you are concerned about whether the cost will be covered,
ETT advises that:
- you obtain from your Doctor the name of the vaccination, the Drug Identification Number
(DIN), whether the vaccination will be prescribed or not, whether the vaccination is
injected or oral and whether there is an Over the Counter (OCT) substitute, then phone
Manulife at 1-800-268-6195 and ask for a pre-authorization; be sure to note down the
date, time and person who gives you the answer so you can refer to it if your claim is
rejected.
- If you are told that the vaccination will not be covered contact the ETT Benefits Co-
ordinator.
