The Ministry of Education has confirmed that School Boards have the ability to postpone the implementation of the new reporting process, originally scheduled for January/February 2017, until June 2017.
Following discussions, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has decided to postpone the implementation of the process.
Reporting for SK students will be postponed until June 2017. The normal communication process with parents around SK students will remain in place.
The existing reporting mechanisms for the winter term for JK students will also remain in place. Kindergarten teachers will continue using existing templates and technology (File Maker pro) in conjunction with the new curriculum addendum to Growing Success.
The new Communication of Learning in Kindergarten reporting process will be put in place for the reporting period in June 2017. To meet the needs of kindergarten teams, ETT will be meeting with the Board to discuss appropriate and adequate training.
I would like to recognize the Director of the TDSB for his response to the concerns of kindergarten teachers.
I would also like to acknowledge everyone who signed the petition calling for the postponement of the process. The show of solidarity and support for kindergarten teachers was unprecedented. The petition was used by ETFO in discussions with the Ministry around this issue and provided validation to the concerns of kindergarten teachers.
I hope everyone has a great holiday.
