Stewards, please get in touch with any newly hired teachers or teachers returning from leaves at your school/worksite to ensure that they understand the benefits plan enrolment instructions and timelines.
Newly Hired Teacher? Enroled in the ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan?
If you are a newly hired teacher you will receive an invitation to enrol in the ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan from OTIP via your TDSB email address within 2 to 3 weeks of your date of hire.
This email contains your OTIP Identification Number, which is required to enrol online. Please follow the steps outlined in the email to complete your enrolment for yourself and/or your dependants. As part of the enrolment process, any costs that you will be required to pay will be displayed.
If you do not receive this information within three weeks of your date of hire, please contact OTIP at 1-866-783-6847 or email ETFOenrolment@otip.com. The benefits plan requires newly hired teachers to enrol within 31 days of receiving their OTIP enrolment email.
For benefit coverage you must enrol online.
If you do not complete the enrolment process by the date outlined in the OTIP enrolment email, you will be set up with the default coverage determined by the rules laid out in your benefits plan. Please be aware that the default coverage may be minimal, or in some cases, result in no coverage.
Returning From a Leave? Waived Your Benefits While on Leave?
If you are a contract teacher and you waived your benefits for the duration of your leave, you will be eligible to enrol when you actively return to work.
The benefits plan stipulates that teachers in this situation will have 31 days after their return date to enrol without medical evidence of insurability.
Teachers that wish to re-enrol must contact OTIP at 1-866-783-6847 or email ETFOenrolment@otip.com.
Returning From a Leave? Haven’t Transitioned to the New Benefits Plan?
If you were on a leave during the initial enrolment period and have yet to enrol in the new benefits plan, please contact OTIP at 1-866-783-6847 or email ETFOenrolment@otip.com.
Benefits Card and Benefits Booklet
After you have completed your enrolment, your benefits card will be mailed to you by OTIP. If you would like to print a copy of your benefits card prior to this, please follow the instructions in the enrolment email.
Your Benefits Booklet can be found in the Benefits section of the ETT website (requires login) or in the ‘My Claims’ section of OTIP’s secure member website after you have completed your enrolment.
