Transition to ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan

ETFO Benefits Plan for ETT members starts April 1, 2017. If you are currently covered by the TDSB Benefits Plan, this will replace that plan.

For benefit coverage you must enrol online.

Open Enrolment: ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan

The ETFO ELHT includes an opportunity for open enrolment for any ETT member not currently enroled in the TDSB Benefits Plan.

May 1, 2017 is the last day to enrol without evidence of medical insurability (31 days after the commencement of coverage).

If you miss the May 1, 2017 deadline, coverage will be subject to approval by the insurer along with any required new evidence of insurability. This could mean limitations or potential denial of coverage under the new plan.

What is the ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan

The 2014 ETFO Central Agreements set out provisions for a new ETFO Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT) Benefits Plan for Teachers (& Occasional Teachers and DECEs/ESPs/PSPs).

The Plan is being administered by Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP) and is being phased in across locals in waves. The ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan begins April 1, 2017 for ETT members.

Timeline

New Benefit Plan Timeline

March 6 – 17, 2017

A brown envelope with the OTIP logo, with the words “Time Sensitive Information Enclosed” in the lower right section of the envelope will be mailed to members’ home addresses.

Do not throw out this package. The beneficiary envelope contained therein is extremely important as it is required during the enrolment phase.

All ETT members should receive this package from OTIP by March 17, 2017. If you have not received this package, please contact OTIP Benefits Services at 1-866-783-6847 or email ETFOenrolment@otip.com.

March 20 – 31, 2017

Between March 20 – 31, 2017, eligible ETT members will receive the OTIP enrolment email via their Board email address. Please diligently check your Board email between March 20 – 31, 2017 for this very important email.

This email contains your OTIP identification number, which is required to enrol online.

Please note that not all members will receive the email at the same time. Please thoroughly read the OTIP email for the online enrolment process.

Your new coverage will be pre-populated to be consistent with your current coverage (Board coverage information). However, please carefully review your information to make sure that the pre-populated information is accurate. Check and, if necessary, change/update:

  • single/family coverage;
  • dependents information;
  • optional coverage;
  • coordination of benefits; and
  • any other information

The online registration requires designation of a beneficiary for life insurance. You will be prompted to print, sign, and mail the form to OTIP, using the pre-addressed Beneficiary Designation Form envelope mailed to your home address between March 6 – 17, 2017 in the brown envelope from OTIP.

Between March 20-31, 2017, eligible ETT members will be mailed a new pay-direct benefits card. Receiving this card does not indicate that you are enroled in the new benefits plan. Your card is only active after completing online enrolment.

If you do not receive your new pay-direct benefits card before April 1, 2017, and have completed online enrolment, you will still have coverage and can print additional benefits cards from the ‘My Claims’ section of OTIP’s secure member website.

April 1, 2017

Coverage under the new ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan begins for ETT members.

May 1, 2017

This is the last day to enrol without evidence of medical insurability (31 days after the commencement of coverage).

Claims Prior <br /> to April 1

Claims Incurred Prior to April 1, 2017 under the TDSB Benefits Plan

Your current TDBS Benefits Plan will terminate at midnight on March 31, 2017.

Please submit any medical and/or dental expenses incurred prior to April 1 immediately so that they can be processed.

Access to Manulife’s online system will be suspended on the last day of the plan, March 31, 2017, at midnight. After that date, ETT members with claims on or before March 31, 2017 may only submit manually (paper copy), mailed to Manulife within 180 days from March 31, 2017.
